As Liverpool, and the rest of the UK, have been basking in this early burst of sunshine, there’s one musician who doesn’t quite feel the same as the rest of us. Novelty Island shares his latest single ‘I’m Glad It’s Not Sunny’. A melancholic song about finding comfort in the gloom.

Written about a year ago and recorded in a cottage in Wales, this track flips the idea of seasonal sadness on its head. Novelty Island explains, “I feel like most people get sad in the winter, I’m sort of the opposite, I feel like that in the summer”.

Drawing inspirations from the 90’s sounds of Radiohead and Beck, the track builds hazy lo-fi texture. Built around a slowed down Spanish guitar and recorded onto a tape, it carries a warm, nostalgic feel. This is contrasted by introspective subject matter and melancholic minor chords.

“I’m Glad It’s Not Sunny” is the first glimpse at Novelty Island’s upcoming work, with a new album arriving in October. Until then, let this be your soundtrack for those days when the sun goes behind the clouds.
